Cabbage Soup, anyone?

I don’t exactly remember when I went on my first ‘diet” but I know I was young. Roughly, later middle school/early high school years. When I was in 10th grade I had to get braces. There was a 3 month period during that time where I had to wear this spacer thing on the roof of my mouth, which basically put me on a liquid/soft foods diet. Talk about easiest diet ever!  I lost about 15 lbs just like that without even trying, it was great!  All good things have to come to an end though. Spacer came out and I was introduced back into the world of food. The pounds crept back on but it didn’t faze me, I was in heaven being able to eat normal food again! Then came senior year, I was surrounded by wonderful friends, who are still some of my besties today. All of my friends were always skinnier than me. I was definitely the chubby one of the bunch. It was hard watching them be able to fit into these cute little dresses for high school dances, shop at Contempo Casual’s and wear the ever so popular crop tops made famous by the girls of Beverly Hills, 90210. At this point in my l life when the average high school girl weighed 120 lbs, I was weighing in at 155 lbs. Couple months before my senior prom I decided it would be a great idea to go on the Cabbage Soup Diet. Just thinking about it makes me want to throw up! For those of you not familiar with the CSD, it consists of eating all the cabbage soup you want each day for 7 days, with a select few other foods . One day it was fruits and cabbage soup, the next veggies and cabbage soup. Bottom line, eat as much cabbage soup as you’d like and lose up to 10 lbs in one week. 10 lbs in ONE WEEK gone?!?!?!?! I can totally do this! I whipped up my first batch of cabbage soup. You would have thought I scooped up the contents of a swamp and poured it into a soup bowl. As if the look of it wasn’t bad enough, the smell was even worse! Cooked cabbage floating around in broth that was more water than any sort of chicken, vegetable or beef broth,  SO NOT TASTY, but who cares, I was about to lose 10 lbs in one week. Take a moment to allow your senses to travel to the smells and sights of cabbage soup. Uhhh, can I offer you a puke bucket?  Four days later I just could not take it anymore so I jumped off the cabbage soup bandwagon. Needless to say, I gained back the 5 lbs I lost in those 4 days without even blinking. It’s been 14 years since I last took a bite of cabbage soup.

Nutrition Tip: Start your morning off with a great source of Protein, like eggs, 2% Cottage Cheese or Greek Yogurt with Berries. It will keep you full and energetic all morning.
